Thermal Imaging by Bob Wewer

I cannot count the times in my career that I have torn apart a wall or roof to "explore" and find the extent of damage caused by storm or bad installation practices.  Clients will say "Just Rip It Out" because of frustration but hold on a minute.  This is the twenty first century, isn't it?  Can we see behind walls?

Yes we can!   Often, problems are easily diagnosed with infrared photography.  We use it often to diagnose problems and arrive at a feasible scope of damage before the first hammer swings.  Isn't it best to know before you destroy perfectly good construction to ensure that you have solved a problem?

I have written about change orders before, but this practice of going ahead into the unknown without thermal imaging is a big change order waiting to happen.  Thermal imaging can be used in a variety of applications:

Roof Leak Detection, especially on flat roofs.
Air Sealing and Insulation issues.
Electrical and Plumbing.
Mold Detection.
Basement Water Problems.

The List goes on.........................................
